Step 1: The Decontamination Wash

Start with a thorough two-bucket wash using AQUA-SUDS. Add 1–2 ounces to a 4-gallon bucket and fill with pressurized water to generate thick suds. Wash the vehicle from top to bottom using a quality wash mitt, rinsing your mitt in the rinse bucket between panels.

Texas Tip: Wash in the shade or inside your garage. In Texas summer heat, soap will flash-dry on the panel before you can rinse it, leaving water spots and residue. Early morning (before 9 AM) or evening (after 6 PM) are your best windows.

Step 2: Clay Bar Decontamination

After washing, run your hand across the paint. If it feels rough or gritty, you need to clay. Spray a clay lubricant (or diluted AQUA-SUDS works in a pinch) and glide the clay bar across each panel until the surface feels glass-smooth. This removes embedded contaminants that washing alone can't touch — industrial fallout, rail dust, tree sap residue, and overspray.

Step 3: Polish (If Needed)

If your paint has swirl marks, light scratches, or oxidation, now is the time to correct them. A ceramic coating locks in whatever is underneath it — so if you coat over swirls, you're preserving swirls for 3–4 years. Use a dual-action polisher with our Aqua Buff Polishing Pad and Aqualux Polish to restore clarity before coating.

If your paint is already in good condition, skip this step.

Step 4: IPA Wipe-Down

This is the most critical prep step. Mix isopropyl alcohol at a 1:1 ratio with distilled water in a spray bottle. Spray each panel and wipe with a clean Swiss 300 towel. This removes all polish residue, oils, and fillers that would prevent the ceramic coating from bonding properly to your clear coat.

Do not skip this step. Poor bonding is the #1 reason DIY ceramic coatings fail prematurely.

Step 5: Apply AQUASiC MAX

Now for the main event. Here's how to apply AQUASiC MAX like a professional:

1. Work one panel at a time. Don't try to coat the entire car at once.
2. Apply 4–6 drops of AQUASiC MAX onto the included suede applicator pad.
3. Spread in a crosshatch pattern — horizontal passes, then vertical passes — ensuring even coverage across the entire panel.
4. Wait for the flash. After 30–60 seconds (depending on temperature and humidity), you'll see the coating begin to rainbow or haze slightly. This is the flash point.
5. Level with a Swiss 300 towel. Using light pressure, wipe the panel in straight lines to remove excess coating and create a perfectly even layer. Flip the towel frequently.
6. Move to the next panel and repeat.

Texas Tip: In high heat (above 85°F), the coating will flash faster — sometimes in 20–30 seconds. Work smaller sections and keep your leveling towel close. If the coating becomes difficult to level, you've waited too long. In extreme heat, work in an air-conditioned garage if possible.

Step 6: Curing

After application, AQUASiC MAX needs 24–48 hours to fully cure. During this time:

• Do not wash the vehicle
• Do not expose it to rain or sprinklers
• Do not park under trees (sap, pollen, bird droppings)
• Keep it in a garage or covered area if possible

After 48 hours, your coating is fully cured and ready to face whatever Texas throws at it — UV, heat, rain, bugs, and everything in between.
